A little more information about the structure of the school
The number of pupils on the roll is approximately 630 and we have class sizes from 22 to 30. Within each class, pupils are taught individually, as a group, or as a whole class, but always according to their needs and abilities. We run a number of intervention groups to focus on specific children and their needs, which supports them to keep up with teaching and learning throughout school.
All children between the age of 4 and 11 study a curriculum which has been designed with the children's education in mind. Reception follows the early years curriculum and Years 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 follow the Key Stage 1 and 2 curriculums. This progresses carefully from Reception throughout school until year 6. Our school intent is well planned and shared well across our school community. We have a focus on developing a love of books as well as interwoven throughout our school an emphasis on 'Communication', which focusses on reading and speech, language and communicating. We have a specialist hub of expertise for SLCN and are also an 'Elklan-friendly' and 'Makaton-friendly' school with staff trained up to level 4. Further to this we have staff who can BSL too. We also lead Maths Mastery and have an LLME working within school. The school is a voice 21 school and is now being accredited as a 'Hub of expertise' in this area. We have a designated sensory room and provision across the school and support other schools beyond our own. We have staff trained in Dyslexia and 6 NASENCO within school to support SEND pupils within our setting. We have staff training in 'CCET' and are able to test pupils with the psychology association. We are also trained in PECs, intensive interaction, curiosity approach. We have a fully functioning 'Therapy room' with 4 trained staff who support pupils. They have therapeutic principles training, foundation degrees in teaching and learning and are completing degrees in Child and Adolescent mental health. We also have a trained Therapy Dog.
The school is divided into houses (Robins, Kingfishers, Parrots and Canaries) which are led by house captains. The school has good music provision with a variety of tuned instruments and peripatetic teachers as well as trained staff within the school with music specialisms. The school has achieved the Quality Music Award 2023-24. Children within the school take 'The Royal School of Music' exams and some have reached Grade 5. We teach French and Italian and have good links with the 'Italian consulate', who provide a teacher for the school to support pupils learning Italian well.
